Merlot, De Gras 2008
A recent winner of 'Chilean Winery of the Year', their Merlot is intense, deep red in colour with a hugely fruity nose of ripe plums and cherries. The palate is full and ripe with great depth. Dangerously easy drinking! (14% abv)

Weighbridge Shiraz, Peter Lehmann, Barossa 2007
Lovely aromas of plum fruit with leafy notes and a beautifully soft, fruit driven palate showing typical shiraz richness reined in by the soft, textured finish. (14.5% abv)

Eco Organic Malbec, Santa Ana Mendoza 2008
The Malbec variety was originally from South West France, but has really found its place in Argentina. It makes wonderful chunky wine with fresh plum and blackberry flavours and a lovely soft finish. (14% abv)

Pagos de Aráiz, Crianza, Navarra 2005
As Rioja prices continue to rise, we looked further afield for some better value. This wine comes from the neighbouring region of Navarra. With flavours of plum and red fruits, toasty oak and liquorice, we highly recommend it, for both its quality and its price! (14% abv)

Chäteau Nicot Rouge, Bordeaux 2006
A real find.....Drinkable Claret at an affordable price. This lovely wine is a traditional blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Well structured and very classy! (12.5% abv)

Painter Bridge Cabernet, J. Lohr 2006/07
Pioneering winemaker Jerry Lohr, always maintains that making good wine isn't rocket science... adding, that he should know, as he was formerly a scientist at NASA! This Cabernet offers blackcurrant, mint and eucalyptus notes, with soft tannins. (13% abv)

Shiraz Viognier, Yering Station 2005
Yering Station is the oldest winery in Victoria, and is consistently one of the best. Another new find for us, this award winning wine is sourced from vineyards situated in the cooler climate areas of the Yarra valley, not too far from Melbourne. Deep garnet in colour with a complex and powerful nose, it has aromas of ripe berries, complex violet, liquorice and spice with a tarry oak complexity. (14.5% abv)

Fleurie Poncie, Domaine du Vissoux 2008
Pierre and Martine Chermette are producers of serious Beaujolais. They show that in the right hands the Gamay variety is capable of great things. Recently voted the top Fleurie by Decanter Magazine, the wine has flavours of morello cherries and strawberries with good weight and structure. (13% abv)

Cartagho, MandraRossa 2006
At a recent tasting to find a suitable replacement for one of our favourites, one wine stood head and shoulders above the others. We were even more pleased when it turned out to be such an individual and unusual wine. The "Cartagho" from Sicily's Mandrarossa winery is made from Nero D'Avola, a variety native to Sicily. Don't be put off if you don't know this variety, its only just becoming known in the U.K. This remarkable wine has elegant, vibrant plum and cherry aromas. A rich damson-like fruitiness with hints of vanilla and a slight smoky edge from the 12 months it has spent in oak. Winner of one of the coveted "3 glass awards" in the most respected guide to Italian wine, this is very unusual and special. Not produced in huge quantities we are delighted to be able to list it. Rioja Reserva, Marques de Riscal 2005
The Oldest Rioja house, Marques de Riscal celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2008. This sumptuous and elegant wine is probably the ultimate expression of Rioja Reserva. Produced from the 3 varieties Graciano, Mazuelo, and Tempranillo it spends 2 years in American oak, and 18 months in bottle before release. Refined, polished and mature, it is intense and fruity and silky smooth (14% abv)

Chakalaka (Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvedre), Spice Route 2008
Just as winter comes upon us we find this big brooding wine from South Africa. Named after a zulu chief, this blend of three Rhone varietals is absolutely stunning. With big, bold flavours of dark bramble fruits with cinnamon and pepper, and a long smooth finish. A great match with game and other stronger flavoured meat dishes. A real winter warmer and a "Decanter" magazine gold medal winner too! (14.5% abv)
